⚠️ Important Hardware Requirements

  • Nozzle: Carbon fiber is abrasive. A hardened steel nozzle is mandatory. Brass nozzles will wear out within hours.
  • Nozzle Diameter: 0.6mm or larger recommended to prevent clogging from fiber particles.
  • Extruder: Dual-gear extruder strongly advised. Fiber-filled filament is stiff and may slip on single-gear setups.
  • Enclosure: Required for parts larger than 50mm to prevent warping and ensure interlayer adhesion.

Key Advantages of PA6-CF Filament

  • ✅ 3x higher stiffness than unfilled PA6
  • ✅ Low warping compared to pure nylon
  • ✅ Excellent heat resistance (160°C+ HDT)
  • ✅ Professional matte black surface finish
  • ✅ Lightweight alternative to aluminum components

Aplicaciones típicas

  • Automotive under-hood brackets and mounts
  • Drone frames and high-stress RC components
  • Robotic grippers and end-of-arm tooling
  • Manufacturing jigs, fixtures, and inspection gauges
  • Functional prototypes requiring structural integrity

Frequently Asked Questions – PA6-CF Filament

Q1: Do I really need a hardened nozzle for PA6-CF Filament?

Yes, absolutely. Carbon fiber is highly abrasive. A standard brass nozzle will wear out in just a few hours of printing, causing inconsistent extrusion and ruined prints. Use a hardened steel or ruby-tipped nozzle (0.6mm recommended) for reliable performance.

Q2: How should I dry PA6-CF Filament before printing?

Nylon absorbs moisture rapidly, which causes popping, stringing, and poor layer adhesion. Dry PA6-CF Filament at 70°C for 8–12 hours before use. For best results, print directly from a heated dry box or filament dryer set to 70°C.

Q3: What bed surface and adhesive work best?

We recommend Magigoo PA applied to a clean PEI sheet or garolite (G10) bed. PVA glue stick diluted with water also works. Ensure bed temperature is maintained at 90–110°C throughout the print.

Q4: Can I print PA6-CF Filament without an enclosure?

Small parts (under 50mm) may print successfully without an enclosure if the room is draft-free. However, for parts larger than 50mm, an enclosure with ambient temperature of 45–60°C is strongly recommended to prevent warping and delamination.

Q5: What nozzle temperature should I use?

Start with 270–290°C. Higher temperatures improve layer adhesion but may increase stringing. Run a temperature tower to find the sweet spot for your specific printer.

Q6: How does PA6-CF Filament compare to PA12-CF?

PA6-CF Filament offers higher stiffness and temperature resistance (160°C+ HDT) than PA12-CF, but absorbs more moisture. PA12-CF is tougher and more dimensionally stable in high humidity. For structural parts in hot/dry environments, choose PA6-CF; for wet or impact-heavy applications, consider PA12-CF.

Q7: Is post-processing or annealing recommended?

Annealing at 80–100°C for 2–6 hours can further increase heat deflection temperature and strength. Note that annealing may cause slight shrinkage (0.3–0.5% in Z-axis), so scale your model slightly if tolerances are critical.

Q8: Can I paint or glue PA6-CF printed parts?

Yes. The matte surface accepts paint and primer well. For bonding, use cyanoacrylate (super glue) or two‑part epoxy. Sanding the surface lightly improves adhesion.
