Delrin is DuPont’s brand name for POM homopolymer, while generic “acetal” typically refers to POM copolymer. Both are polyoxymethylene engineering plastics used in precision mechanical applications.
POM Homopolymer (Delrin) Properties
POM homopolymer offers tensile strength of 70 MPa (highest of all acetal grades), flexural modulus of 2,800 MPa, elongation at break of 40% (most ductile), and excellent fatigue resistance for cyclic loading applications.
POM Copolymer Properties
POM copolymer provides better chemical resistance against acids and hot water, excellent hot stamping capability for decorated parts, improved stability with less centerline porosity, and typically lower cost than homopolymer.
Selection Guide
Choose homopolymer (Delrin type) for precision gears with high loads, snap-fit designs, and applications requiring highest strength. Choose copolymer for chemical exposure environments, decorated parts, and cost-sensitive applications. For high-strength applications, consider our PA66-CF30.
