Delrin is DuPont’s brand name for POM homopolymer, while generic “acetal” typically refers to POM copolymer. Both are polyoxymethylene engineering plastics used in precision mechanical applications.

POM Homopolymer (Delrin) Properties
POM homopolymer offers tensile strength of 70 MPa (highest of all acetal grades), flexural modulus of 2,800 MPa, elongation at break of 40% (most ductile), and excellent fatigue resistance for cyclic loading applications.
POM Copolymer Properties
POM copolymer provides better chemical resistance against acids and hot water, excellent hot stamping capability for decorated parts, improved stability with less centerline porosity, and typically lower cost than homopolymer.
Selection Guide
Choose homopolymer (Delrin type) for precision gears with high loads, snap-fit designs, and applications requiring highest strength. Choose copolymer for chemical exposure environments, decorated parts, and cost-sensitive applications. For high-strength applications, consider our PA66-CF30.

ЧАСТО ЗАДАВАЕМЫЕ ВОПРОСЫ
How do you know whether HDPE vs UHMW-PE — Which Polyethylene Is Right for Your Application? fits a part?
HDPE vs UHMW-PE — Which Polyethylene Is Right for Your Application? fits a part when its load capacity, temperature range, moisture exposure, wear behavior, and processing method match the real service conditions.
What properties should be checked for HDPE vs UHMW-PE — Which Polyethylene Is Right for Your Application??
Check strength, stiffness, impact resistance, heat resistance, moisture absorption, dimensional stability, friction, wear, and chemical compatibility.
What is the biggest selection risk for HDPE vs UHMW-PE — Which Polyethylene Is Right for Your Application??
The biggest risk is choosing from a datasheet value without considering actual environment, processing method, part geometry, and long-term use.
When should HDPE vs UHMW-PE — Which Polyethylene Is Right for Your Application? be tested before production?
Testing is recommended when the part faces load, heat, chemicals, moisture, tight tolerances, regulatory requirements, or a new operating environment.
Delrin vs Acetal POM — Frequently Asked Questions
Is Delrin the same as acetal POM?
Delrin is DuPont's brand name for POM homopolymer. While all Delrin is POM, not all POM is Delrin. Generic acetal refers to POM copolymer. Homopolymer is stronger (70 MPa vs 60-65 MPa), while copolymer has better chemical resistance.
Which is stronger: POM homopolymer or POM copolymer?
POM homopolymer (Delrin type) is mechanically stronger with tensile strength of 70 MPa vs 60-65 MPa for copolymer, and higher elongation at break (40% vs 20-30%). Copolymer offers better resistance to hot water and steam and lower mold shrinkage.
Where can I source POM materials?
Nylonplastic is a specialized manufacturer established in 2005 with ISO9001/14001/45001/IATF16949 certifications. We supply both POM homopolymer (Delrin type) and POM copolymer in rod and sheet forms. Our 300+ CNC machines machine POM to 0.02mm tolerance. Contact us for free samples.
